The 2012 Natick spelling bee to benefit the Natick Education
Foundation (NEF) will take place at Natick High School
on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. The town spelling
bee is one of the NEF’s major fundraising events.
Last year over 40 town organizations, schools, and businesses
were represented.
Here's how it works: Teams of three members spell through several preliminary rounds grouped in categories. For instance, there may be a category of Businesses, another of Realtors, another of PTO groups. And that's where the fun begins, as natural rivals face each other. The winner of each round then competes in a final round with all the other round winners, and a winning team is named. All participants receive a word study book in advance. There is no solo spelling; each team of three decides its response. See Spelling Bee Rules.
To participate: There are several ways
to be part of the fun. Local businesses are urged to form
a team and pay a tax-deductible entry fee of $500. Non-profit
organizations pay a $100 fee. Please print and fill out
the registration form and mail it to: Bill McGinley, Whitney Place at Natick, Attn: NEF Spelling Bee, 3 Vision Drive, Natick, MA 01760, or use the online registration form.
We anticipate that Natick residents Harvey Leonard and Heather Unruh, of
WCVB-Channel 5, will once again MC. There will be lots
of publicity, prizes, refreshments, and fun for all participants.
The Natick Education Foundation (NEF) is an independent nonprofit membership organization that stimulates excellence in the Natick Public Schools by awarding grants for projects and purchases that support the curriculum, by funding scholarships and professional development for educators, and by raising the profile of public education in Natick.
